Tips for Researchers: Census’ American Fact Finder

Even though individual census records from the decennial census are made public only after 72 years to protect privacy rights, the Census makes available the latest census aggregate data on population, race and ethnicity, housing, income, education, businesses, and government.

Did you know that over the past 12 months 12.8% of children under the age of 18 live under the poverty level in Massachusetts, which is low compared to other states.  (Puerto Rico has the highest rate at 55.9%.)   Or that 1.8% of the United States population is over the age of 85, whereas 12.9% of the population is over the age of 65?  Or that there are 439,024 more women than men in the U.S.  Or that over the past 12 months 1,330 women who live in Cambridge gave birth and only 3 per 1,000 women were under the age of 19.
