The Massachusetts Historical Commission has made available their database of historical properties by town, adding more information daily. Not all Massachusetts towns are in the database – Cambridge being one of them. (Cambridge did its own extensive property survey in the 1970s through the auspices of the Cambridge Historical Commission, which are available at the CHC.)
The Massachusetts Historical Commission also has made available its Reconnaissance Survey Town Reports. These reports, produced for MHC’s Statewide Reconnaissance Survey between 1979 and 1987, introduce the historical development of each of the Commonwealth’s municipalities. Each report contains an historic overview, a description of topography, and political boundaries. View the reports here. Cambridge’s report from 1980 can be viewed here.
These are two nice resources for those whose interest and research is beyond Cambridge.
