On Tuesday evening, we were treated to a truly wonderful poetry reading by acclaimed poet and translator David Ferry. Poet Fred Marchant gave a great introduction to the reading.
During the evening, David read his “Ellery Street” poems. He lived for many years just around the corner from the library in a house once inhabited by Margaret Fuller. David told the audience about how delighted he was to learn that he shared a living space with the great Transcendentalist. He also discovered that Ralph Waldo Emerson paid a visit to Fuller when she lived in his house. He exclaimed to the audience, “Emerson was in my living room!”
